4. Fake Sushi: Seafood is the most fraud ridden and convoluted sector of our food world, but even so, sushi stands out as especially bad, the worst of the worst, and it is one of the only examples of a solely restaurant/prepared food scam - you’ll run into issues with EVOO and red snapper and ersatz champagne at retail and eating out, but very few people make their own sushi, and almost all of it in this country is ordered, not prepared by consumers. The sushi restaurant industry has the worst imaginable track record for deceit, and numerous studies have shown that the vast majority (in some studies all or nearly all eateries in cities as large as LA) have at least one mislabeled lie on their menu. In a large sampling of New York City sushi joints of all price joints, only one, Nobu, came through with flying colors for accuracy - and in many parts of the city there is a sushi spot on every block! The results of these investigations is shocking, and I wrote about some of this earlier here at Forbes.
Chef Keith Coleman, whose in influence can be seen on many cafe? menus around Dublin, believes working with the producers is crucial. “Having an ongoing dialogue and giving feedback on what you’re using can serve to improve not only the quality of that product, but also how best to unlock its potential, whether that be ageing, storing or prolong its integrity. It’s simply not good enough to use it and have their name on the menu. Respect and support the producer, and the same will transfer to the product and onto the plate.”
The plantation founded by his grandfather over 60 years ago, who planted new trees amongst the ancient wild ones that, even to this day, still produce viable fruit.
If I had been following health guidelines over the years I would have been scared of eggs, avoided carbs, red meat, full fat milk and butter, while confronting supermarket shelves stacked with obesity-crisis refined sugar products and processed food.
What We Love: One key drawback of most water bottles? They tend to fit a bit awkwardly in bags -- especially if you’re heading to or from work with a purse, tote or briefcase. The eco-conscious co-creators of Memobottle sought to address this issue by designing a flat water bottle to fit easily alongside laptops, books and other items. These clear, BPA-free bottles come with recycled cardboard packaging. Another perk? Through the company’s partnership with Water.org, each bottle sold provides one person with two months of clean drinking water.
“It’s so beautiful it’s hard to believe it just grows like this,” Logan said. “Pokeberry ink was most famously used by Civil War soldiers to write love notes.”
Unfortunately, snarling at Catholic wine followed the usual route of the law of unintended consequences, and boosted the homegrown gin trade. By 1700, the English population of less than 7 million was drinking 18m gallons of gin every year.

Winter and Cutler met in law school; they worked as lawyers in San Francisco for over 10 years each. In 2006, Winter said she started thinking about bottles and waste. “I bought every bottle that was out there, and in my mind, drinking out of metal was just never an option,” she says. (She’s referring to Sigg and Klean Kanteen bottles, though the metal S’well bottle, which launched a year prior to Bkr, is arguably its biggest competitor now, at least from aesthetic, ubiquity-in-hot-yoga-classes, and price-point perspectives.)
